Mungo Park
Mungo Park was an assistant doctor and did surgeries on board on a ship. He was born in 1771 in Scotland and his nationality is British. He was the seventh child out of thirteen. He died in 1805 when the local people of Africa attack his canoe and he drowned. He also married and got a child named Thomas Park. Mungo Park explored the Niger River in Africa and that it ended in the sea and that it went west. In July 21, 1796.He traveled by a boat called “Worcester” through the Pacific Ocean. Together with 2 local guides to protect him. He was also the first European explorer to explore the Niger River. In 1805 Mungo Park was again invited to lead another expedition to the Niger River he traveled by canoe through the Niger River and in to the Atlantic Ocean. Hear he brang 30 soldiers and 10 other Europeans. His equipment that he brang was food, clothes and a compass. Mungo Park got a Scottish society award which is a medal for a successful journey. His reasons for exploring were to be rich and famous and making money.On his first voyage in 1795 troops died of tropical fever and crocodile bits and also lion attacks. Thereby there were less people to protect him. We know about him because he had kept notes in the time he was explored and when he went back to Scotland he wrote a book called “Travels in the interior district of Africa” and it became the best seller.
